Tug Of War

Dogs will pull on a lead to show that they are eager to go for a walk or to show their dominance. Do not give in by starting a ''tug of war'', but rather train the dog not to pull on the leash. Forcing the dog to stop by you pulling back on the lead is not an option for training your dog, as this can amke the dog aggressive or even worse it can hurt your pet. Rather, when the pulling starts, stop walking. You can now bend down, grab the leash behind the dog's neck and gently pull it back or just hold it for a while. Once the dog has stopped, get it to sit and wait for your signal to start walking again. Doing this repeatedly shows the dog that your in charge and that pulling is not an option. Remember never to get physical with your dog and reward it if it does the right thing.

Stop The Urge to Chew

Dogs ''chew'' on items especially when they are bored. You have to stimulate them with enough exercise and play in order to curb the boredom. If not contained ''chewing'' can become costly as many valuable items fall prey to this urge. Spend time with your dog to see what he wants to ''chew'' on. If it is not a toy, then you have to stop this action with a defenite ''NO''. Remove these items ''out of sight out of mind''. Substitute these items with a squishy toy. If you have a big dog these toys may be destroyed at a rapid rate. You should look at buying toys that are more durable, such as those tough cow hide tipe toys. There are a variety of online shops that cater for this need. If the problem persist seek proffesional help by asking your vet for advise.

I will list a few online ''petshops'' in my next update and supply you wth the links for them.

how to house train your dog

Whether you have a new puppy or older dog, it is important to house train them as quickly as possible. A lot of dog owners will punish their new dog if they make a mess in the house, but this is the wrong approach as it only teaches the dog not to go when the owner is around, not that it shouldn't go to the toilet in the house. If you do punish your dog in this way, it will end up wary of you but still no better house trained.
To house train your dog you need to be expecting accidents, and also anticipating when it is going to need the toilet. Dogs often need to go after they've slept or eaten, so take it to where you want it to go after these events. If you keep doing this regularly, and anticipate when your dog needs the toilet, before long it will start to get the idea. It will take patience and dedication from the owner though.
Another wrong approach some owners use is to first train a puppy to go on newspaper inside. This will only cause confusion, you don't want your dog to think it is acceptable to go to the toilet inside whether it is on newspaper or not. It will make it much easier for you and the dog if you train it to go to the toilet outside from the very beginning.
It can be very frustrating if your puppy or dog keeps going to the toilet inside, but make sure you control your anger and you will achieve greater results with your dog quicker.
